Weekend Pleasure with Lotus

A new cruise tour down the Pearl River will be offered starting July 2. According to the cruise agency, the daytime tour will depart from the city's center at Tianzi Pier for a round trip excursion to Lianhua Mountain in Panyu.

Boarding at the once prestigious royal pier, and then travelling eastward, the ride takes tourists past Jiangwan Bridge, Haiyin Bridge, Ersha Island, Sun Yat-sen University, the Guangzhou Bridge, the Canton Tower, Zhujiang New Town, Canton Fair's Pazhou Complex and Whampoa Military School.

Lianhua Mountain, meaning Lotus Mountain, is now within its peak tourism season. From June 18 to July 18, a lotus festival will exhibit more than 400 kinds of lotus flowers. On the mountain, a walk to the historic red sandstone quarry will share the experience of its 2,200 years of history. Other points of interest are the magnificent statue of Kwanyin (The Goddess of Mercy), and the Lianhua Pagoda, which was called the Second Bar Pagoda by western merchants in the old days who found it to be the first landmark visible on arrival in Guangzhou.

The tour begins at 8:30 on Saturdays and Sundays and takes about eight and a half hours. A tour guide accompanies the tour to introduce the attractions. Performances and snacks are served on the cruiser. A special discount up to 50% is offered on July 2 and 3. Telephone booking is available.
